Our co-founder Malcolm Rands
Malcolm is a true eco champion, having founded New Zealand’s first permaculture ecovillage in 1986 with his wife Melanie.
He built a track record in the not for profit sector before founding ecostore and its not-for-profit arm Fairground Foundation.
He’s been honoured with the New Zealand Ministry for the Environment’s Green Ribbon Award and ecostore has twice been named New Zealand Sustainable Business of the Year. Malcolm’s known as New Zealand’s ecoman, spending two years as the resident ‘green’ expert on TVNZ’s Good Morning show. He’s also a member of the World Class New Zealand International Network and was honoured with membership of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to business, conservation and philanthropy.
Malcolm’s book Ecoman, published in 2013, records a remarkable journey of activism and entrepreneurship as he led ecostore to become a multi-million dollar global success story. The book has since proved the inspiration behind so many people switching to safer, healthier products.
❝ The sum of Malcolm’s efforts to manufacture 100 per cent natural products should not be limited to the success of ecostore, but rather that he has almost single-handedly created a national and international awareness of the need to create an environmentally-friendly business and shown how it can be done. The world needs more people like Malcolm Rands. The future wellbeing of our planet and its people depend on it.❞
